Conclusion
I could see easily that Cathy had been hurt by this event more in relation to what her parents would think than what had happened to her. It was clear that she did not consider herself to be permanently maimed or stamped in some way. She accepted the experience and handled it in a very mature way. She realized the dire consequences for this doctor if she made this charge against him.
The other factor in stopping her from doing this, however, cannot be overlooked. She was, in essence, afraid of being rejected by her parents. She was afraid to lose their love and respect. It was much easier to her to deal with the situation since only she knew of it. Had her parents been involved in this from the very beginning, she would have reacted very differently, and even though she is a strong and intelligent girl, I believe it would have been detrimental to her adjustment.
It was finally decided to go through other channels concerning the doctor and I agreed to try to help in whatever way I could. I do not feel capable of handling this, since I know the man personally. My own actions would not be objective to the point that would be required.
Cathy came to see me only once again, and by that time, she had gotten another job as a part time nurse for an ear, nose and throat specialist. She feels there will be less worry in this field. I have every confidence that she will succeed in her lifetime.
