Conclusion

It was useless, in the beginning, to convince Cindy that she actually had nothing to do with the rape. She was so laden with guilt, that no matter what tactic I took, she refused to see the principal's entire culpability. Cindy, however, is a bright girl, and after several more sessions, I was able to at least have her consider the possibility of bringing this incident to the attention of the correct parties.

This man has a problem, and should be helped. Cindy no longer blamed him for the incident, however, and throughout the remainder of our therapy sessions, I was unable to convince her that this was the only and the right way for her to proceed. She remained constant in her belief that everything should be forgotten. She is off to a fine career in a wonderful college, and she refuses to consider jeopardizing this.

As to Cindy's emotional health concerning this incident, I see no real lasting problem. Even a few weeks after the experience, she was back to her usual fine temper and did not express any wish to stay away from boys. Again, this was possible insofar as her parents never knew about this and she was allowed to forget the entire experience. Young minds are stronger than some would believe.
