Chapter 3
The following day, Kim was in for a rude disappointment. She discovered that her new husband was not quite as potent as he had led her to believe. He needed a three-day rest between climaxes, and though she was raring to go that morning, he walked out without so much as a backward glance. But Kim had made another discovery. When Barney had left, he had taken all her clothing with him in the trunk of his car. She was totally naked, virtually trapped in the house.
Picking up the phone, she called her mother, but her mother, without waiting to hear what her problem was, told her now that she was married, Kim would have to solve her own problems since it wasn't right for a parent to come between husband and wife. Kim heard her father echoing the same sentiments.
Kim would have phoned her sister, but the older girl had taken a plane back to Philadelphia, and there was nothing her sister would be able to do for her. So for the rest of the day, Kim found she had to remain locked in her apartment. Actually, it was the downstairs of a two-family house, with three rooms in it, and far more pleasant than an apartment in a building. The problem was, her landlord, who lived above her, worked all day, leaving for work before her husband, and returning after. So she wasn't able to appeal there for help, either. She didn't have the nerve to walk outside with just a bath towel wrapped around her. Kim discovered she was a captive in her own home. Barney had apparently done some shopping before they had moved in, because there was enough food to last the two of them a week. But she didn't like the idea of being a captive wife.
Barney, meanwhile, was sulking. He had no desire to go home once the day's work was done. He ached to go out and have some beers with the boys. The trouble was, he had no money. It suddenly occurred to him he might be able to get some money and get out of this predicament he was in, as well. If he was able to prove Kim was an unfaithful wife, he's be able to get a divorce and he wouldn't have to pay any alimony.
It was five o'clock, and he and a few of the other accountants were going down to the nearby watering shed and talk over a few beers. Since Barney had no money of his own, he decided to broach two of the others who worked with him with his idea. Neither had been at the wedding, and Kim didn't know them.
The three took a small booth at the back of the crowded bar, the other two men teasing Barney about his getting trapped into marriage so easily.
"Yeah, well with your help, I'm gonna get untrap-ped," Barney told him, and he took out a photo of his wife. "What'd you guys give to bang something like this?"
The two men looked at the photo and whistled, and both agreed Kim was really worth screwing.
Barney proceeded to explain how turned-on his wife got when raped, and then said, "All I want is for you guys to pretend you're robbing the house, rape my wife, and take pictures while she's really enjoying it. You can both screw her as many times as you want, but only if you leave me fifty bucks. I mean, you have to admit, Kim is one helluva good-looking woman."
Two other two men looked at one another, then looked at Barney, and one of them, a sandy-haired kid named George, with lots of freckles and a head that slanted back like a roof, said, "Under normal circumstances we'd be glad to give fifty bucks to lay a chick like this. But let's face it, Barney, she isn't gonna be willing. I mean, considering Al and I are doing this as a favor to you, I think we should get some kinda discount."
"Hey, come on you guys, I need money," Barney told them. "I also want to be rid of the bitch. She's nice enough, but I'm not ready for the ball-and-chain bit. So come on, huh. Fifty bills and the lady's yours. I mean, if you guys aren't willing, I can always talk to Cheech and Kenny."
Al, who was older than George, and considerably smarter, knew a good thing when he saw it. He was actually an accountant emeritus working off the books so he was able to collect social security. But he was still "one of the boys." He had been one of the boys all his life.
"Come on, George," Al said. "The broad is worth fifty bucks. We're both good friends of Barney's, and if she's as hot as he says, when we take the pictures, it'll look like she seduced us."
" Think so?" George asked.
"Yeah," Al nodded.
"Okay!" George agreed
