Epilogue

By the time Barney Werner discovered his wife and the quarter-of-a-million dollars were missing, Kim was far enough away to be untraceable. Needless to say, the people to whom the money really belonged weren't pleased that Barney had "lost it." As a matter-of-fact, they didn't believe he had lost it until they had broken both his arms and legs and had dislocated his spine.

By the time Barney received a divorce notice from Alabama, Kim was happily married to John Gordon and living in Wisconsin. John, who made an excellent living, was still amazed at how much his wife managed to save from the household money, storing so much each week in their joint bank account. He figured out that at the rate she was putting money into the bank, and at the present rate of ten-percent interest being paid on thirty-month certificates of deposit, they would end up with a half-million dollars by the time he was ready to retire.

Barney, because of his encounter with certain underworld elements, was never promoted at work and remained a junior accountant the rest of his life. Because he was maimed, he looked unattractive to women, and as a result not only didn't have Kim, but didn't have any other women.
