Conclusion
Every sexual disturbance stems, ultimately, from a general character disorder, or underlying neurosis. It was no different in Virginia's case, as I was able to explain after we had seen each other for several weeks, and discussed her case in greater and greater depth.
A complete break with her father was, of course, necessary. Genuine love-of a more normal nature-surely existed here between Virginia and her father but it had been completely overshadowed by their incestuous entanglement.
The "cure" if we can really expect a complete one in any neurosis, will be for Virginia to develop a deep love-sex relationship with a young man her own age, and push herself as much as possible into a healthy pattern of behavior with this man.
Permanent damage need not result from even this deep-seated and long-existing neurotic relationship with her father, if, steadily and unremittingly, Virginia determines to build a healthy, productive life of her own away from her father.
