Conclusion
Janie's sudden outburst revealed what I had expected. That there was still a healthy part of her that recognized the perversity and self-defeating nature of her behavior, and that wanted her to change.
I calmed Janie down, and urged her to try to think more carefully about why, specifically, she had ever felt the initial desire to tease and to control men or boys. Once we faced that together, I assured her, the rest would be easy. Or a t least, it would be a steady path toward recovery.
Jane R. understood. And I have been mobilizing the healthy forces of her psyche since our first interview. Progress, and, I am optimistic to believe, eventual full recovery from her inner-turmoil, will result.
