Foreword
In this modern age, gambling is as commonly accepted as baseball in our society. In times past, this was often a much frowned-upon activity reserved for the wealthy and the irreparably dissolute classes, and was believed to be a sure method of corrupting one's morals and character.
Times change however, though most people are still susceptible to the same failings as our ancestors always were. Angela Martin, the young blonde wife in this scathingly forthright novel, was a victim of the horrible ravages this weakness can bring down on us when allowed to become out of control. Her husband, David, had long been hopelessly addicted to this vice, but he had vowed to give it up for her. The reader will witness the total depravity that exists in the hearts of those who operate such gambling institutions, making prey of unsuspecting individuals caught in the spiraling web of debt and despair.
Perhaps if David's lovely young wife had never been seen by the lecherous Harvey Sears who owned such an establishment, this heart rending tale, which cried out to be recorded for posterity, might never have taken place. But when this insatiable monster of a man had once glimpsed her curvaceous charms and learned she was the wife of the man who owed him so much money, her fate was hopelessly sealed.
It is the sincere hope of the Publishers that Wife For Stakes by Claude Evans may someday save some other potential Angelinos from being subjected to the ravishment of her soul and body. If that happens, if one innocent young wife and her wayward husband are spared the grief and emotional anguish reported here in such unrelenting detail and artistry, then both Publisher and Author will have fulfilled what they set out to do.
