It should be noted that uncle-niece incest has not been as well documented as other forms of this act. Therefore, according to statistics, uncle-niece incest may appear to be little practiced. Dr. Valensin further states that:

Society then, rather than Nature, has barred incest as a natural act in the conduct of human relationships. Indeed, the desire for incest lies buried within the subconscious of most men and women and influences their conduct whether they know it or not. This is the basis of Freudian theory and has had much influence on psychoanalytic techniques ever since the incest concept was first propounded by Freud.
In the modern sense, is the actual act of incest a perversion? In Complete Sexual Fulfillment, authored by gynecologist Barbara Bross and a writer, Jay Gilbey, we are told that "incest has sometimes been deemed a perversion. It is not. It is a social taboo. It becomes a perversion only in so far as it may leap a generation and put partners of widely differing ages together. A. mother who has intercourse with her son commits infantosexuality."
Most cases of uncle-niece incest can be categorized as infantosexuality. The authors go on to state that:
what lies behind it (incest) psychologically is another matter. But deviant psychological motives may also lie behind seemingly normal acts of intercourse. The spectacle of a couple having intercourse in the simplest of all positions may hide an act of extreme perversion, for the husband may be impotent unless he imagines he is sleeping with a bulldog bitch, and the wife may be frigid unless she pretends to herself that she is committing incest with her father. Sexual intercourse never is what it seems to the outsider. And of any two partners, one always remains an outsider.
In brief, sex is never what it appears to be on the surface. The man-on-woman coital position may possibly be an abnormal act. This is determined by the attitudes that motivate the copulating couple. An act of incest, therefore, may be a perfectly normal act by a couple who are making an effort to find the true meaning of their sexual motivations. But if this is true, then why do social attitudes remain inflexibly opposed to the incestuous couple, regardless of their motivations?
The answer may possibly be found in The Encyclopedia of Human Behavior by Robert M. Goldenson, Ph.D. He states that:
at one time ... prohibitions (of incest) were attributed to the dangers of inbreeding, but today this theory is largely discredited because it applies only when there are latent hereditary defects in the family line. A more widely accepted explanation is that incest creates rivalries that disrupt family life and prevent the society from enlarging and strengthening itself through outside relationships.
The prevalence of incest taboos indicates that the urge to form these relationships must be widespread. In his theory of psychosexual development, Freud held that every child experiences incestuous impulses directed toward the parent of the opposite sex, although during the latency period an "incest barrier" is ordinarily erected, which deflects sexual interest from the parents to other people and activities. Recent investigations, however, tend to favor environmental explanations. It has been found that incestuous relationships occur most frequently where living quarters are crowded, family standards lowest, and opportunities for sexual experimentation constantly present themselves. This view is supported by the fact that the practice appears to be most common on the lower socioeconomic groups where brother and sister frequently share the same room and the father lives in close contact with adolescent daughters.
It should be noted here that uncle-niece incest is most prevalent in close-knit family units where the uncle is either a part of the household or a frequent visitor.
Anal sex is not practiced by incestuous couples with any more frequency than anyone else. Each case subject who preferred anal sex was found to be motivated by a different set of circumstances. But there are many physical reasons that explain the desire for anal sex. In Complete Sexual Fulfillment, the connection between the female sex partner and anal sex is clearly described. Generally women are found to be more anal-erotic; some prefer stimulation of this area to vaginal stimulation. If a wife is honestly anal-erotic, she should let her husband know about it, for this is quite common.
There are several ways of stimulating the nerves in the vicinity of the anus. Incestuous conduct involving the anus may, in certain instances, be abnormal and valid expression of sexual love which reflects the individual's true character traits. It is not necessarily psychologically damaging. More often than not, attitudes towards sexual conduct are more harmful to the individual than the act itself. In volume four of The Encyclopedia of Sexual Behavior, we are told that:
human sexual behavior is learned. It is learned in the context of particular cultural values supported by particular societies. Sex behavior in human beings, can never be free in the sense that freedom is popularly defined. Scientifically, freedom in man's behavior is always related to his ability to make a choice among limited alternatives. In this sense, some societies ... are freer than others but all societies control the sexual behavior of their members.
These societies which have permissive attitudes towards sex and allow numerous alternatives in regard to sexual behavior, we call prosexual ... Despite a powerful remaining element of fascistic ideology, there seems to be, generally speaking, a strong and persistent democratic trend towards more rational sexual behavior both in the free world and certain areas behind the Iron Curtain ...
The trend towards sexual permissiveness is rapidly spreading throughout the world. Yet no social order anywhere condones the act of incest. And anal sex is still regarded with a mixture of distaste and abhorrence. Will attitudes during the "Swinging Seventies" become more relaxed towards incest and anal sex?
