Foreword

Sexual urges appear quickly and forcefully to the adolescent male. This onset of sexual need, sudden and undeniable, can complicate the normal adjustment of the young male and drive him to sexual fantasies that may affect the rest of his life.

Our society instructs young men to be competitive with one another, to prove one's strength and independence at approximately the same age as this dynamic onset of sexual tension. It is easy to see how a young man may confuse his blossoming sexual need (his erect penis) with his duty to become a strong and responsible adult (his manhood).

One of the manners in which this confusion manifests itself is in the choice of sexual fantasy that the adolescent male finds most exciting. There appears to be a pattern to these fantasies, a pattern that has existed in adolescent males of all societies and throughout the history of humankind.

Firstly, the young male is both sexually tense and at the same time, ready to assert his independence as a male. This entails challenging his authority figure (father, teacher).

The adolescent fantasy that his mother seduces him, begs him to have sexual intercourse with him, serves many purposes for the sexually stimulated adolescent male. If his mother seduces him, he is absolved from feeling guilt. He is not responsible for the incestuous act, he is only doing as his mother wishes him to do. The fact that his mother, in his fantasy, begs him to have intercourse and makes it clear that she prefers his (her son's) lovemaking to that of his father (her husband) satisfies the adolescent male need to prove himself as much or more of a man than his authority figure, his father.

The adolescent male frequently fantasizes that his mother ties him up or in some manner detains him so that he is forced to fulfill her insatiable sexual desires. This makes the adolescent, in his fantasy, a better man than his father; it makes the adolescent adored and needed by the primal female figure in his life; it conquers the domination of this female figure (she needs his penis in order to find satisfaction); it absolves all guilt feelings about his desire to have intercourse with his mother (she forces him to do it).

Along with the fantasy of having sexual intercourse with his mother, the adolescent male also fantasizes that all his peers, the boys with whom he competes, are aware of his incredible prowess and either know about or are witnesses to his intercourse acts with his mother. He wants his friends to see his mother begging, forcing him to satisfy her. He wants his friends to know that not only is he a better man than they are, he is a better man than his own father.

We hope that the reader will approach this book with the understanding that it attempts to illuminate the most frequent sexual fantasies of adolescent males, however bizarre they may be.

It is only by facing such realities and studying their effects that we may hope to foster changes that may ease these terribly difficult adolescent years, so fraught with denied sexual need and the anxiety of accepting the responsibilities of male adulthood.
