Foreword
Technically, statutory rape is defined as an "illegal act of intercourse between an adult and an adolescent, whether that adolescent be consenting or not." The law and definition that covers this act was originally intended for the protection of young girls under the age of consent who were unwittingly lured by virtue of romance and/or other enticements, but in many states and localities the statutes have been long ago amended and expanded to include boys as well.
However, this almost universal law, as with most other enacted but untended statutes, is inoperable, does not apply justice equally, ill-fits modern society, and is badly in need of revision.
The truth is that sociological, psychiatric and criminal studies in this and other countries has shown that in the majority of sex cases reviewed in depth, the adolescent involved was a willing if not eager participant, and particularly in those where girls were the alleged "victim", they were more often than not the aggressor!
Parents, educators, and all others dealing with children have long known that young girls are more precocious by far than boys their age, particularly in the area of sex, and most predominantly in the last two decades when morality relaxed to a heretofore unheard of extent.
By nature, training, or a little of both, females learn of their sexuality and concurrent advantage at an astonishingly early age, and begin utilizing this knowledge upon discovery, first with father and male family, then expanding to all susceptable members of the opposite gender.
As recorded in voluminous records from coast to coast, incidents of child/adult relationships are anything but rare, ranging from family members to near-total strangers, and spanning the spectrum from sordid to esthetic. These sexual encounters are also increasing day by day, but because of juvenile protection laws, the information is not made public.
Morally, of course, responsibility rests with any responsible adult to resist all provocative advances made to them by under-age children, no matter how tempting or desirable. This is a very righteous assumption, but does not take into consideration the fact that will power varies from individual to individual as much as intelligence, and that under the right circumstances, even the most strong willed might succumb. , Today's children mature physically at a very early age, and their mental and moral horizons are considerably more expanded than they were even twenty years ago. They know more, feel more, and want to experience more than ever before. And they are not at all hesitant to probe and explore the daring and unknown.
Frankly, any virile male of practically any age would be hard put to resist the advances of an attractive, physically ripe young girl should she willingly and with intent attempt to seduce him. And, human frailties being what they are, an intensely pursued seduction of this type is generally successful.
But why prosecute and persecute the adult? In fact, if both required parties are amenable, why should any concern be directed at all? Or, if blame must be laid, why not on both parties rather than only one? The act itself, and not the age of the participants should be the guiding factor.
In the following story, we are given a graphic example of child-engineered seduction and what it can lead to. Two virgin sisters, excited by curiosity and whispered tales of carnal exploits, elect to seduce their handsome, middle-aged uncle at a time when his wife is in the hospital. When they discover their mother has the same idea, it becomes a matter of sexual tag and secret liaisons. Though purely fiction, there is no doubt the reader could find something similar happening close by.
