Chapter 6
But the day wasn't over.
Ann got up from the bed to go to the bathroom. Billy watched her naked body disappear through the door. Then came a rude, shock.
"Jim!" Ann said suddenly. "What are you doing here?"
Billy knew that he'd better vanish. If Jim caught him in his mother's bed there was no telling what might happen.
"Are you with someone?" Jim asked. "I know it's none of my business. I've been thinking about it."
Billy was glad that Jim had come back. He knew that his mother had missed him. But he was preoccupied with getting out of sight. He slipped off the bed find headed for the closet. His mother probably wouldn't let Jim into the bedroom. But Billy didn't want to take any chances.
But just as he got off the bed, his foot got tangled in the cord of the phone on his mother's end table. The phone crashed to the floor with a surprisingly loud noise.
"There is someone in there with you!" Jim said in an increasingly angry voice.
Now Billy was frantic. He tried to make it into the closet with one big leap. But the phone cord was still around his ankle. This time the cord was pulled taut and Billy went sprawling. He bumped into the chest of drawers, hitting his head.
When Billy looked up, he saw Jim standing in the doorway, looking down at him. Billy had never seen such a shocked expression as the one on Jim's face.
Behind Jim, Billy could see his mother standing naked with a look of agonized horror on her face.
Jim looked from mother to son a few times. He had gone white.
"I can't believe it," he said. "And to think that I let Karen talk me into coming to see you."
Then Jim turned and left the house. Ann and Billy looked at each other.
"Gee Mom," Billy said. "I'm sorry. I was going to hide in the closet but..."
"That's all right, honey," Ann said weakly.
She came back into the bedroom and sat on the edge of the bed. Billy got up from the floor, holding his head.
"I don't think it would have worked out anyhow," Ann said. "Jim and I are so far apart on a lot of things. I couldn't take his strict attitude any longer."
Billy still felt terrible though. But he let his mother make him feel better. They dressed and went out to dinner as they'd planned. But there was a sense of disappointment in the air.
When they got back from dinner, they noticed Karen's bicycle in their back yard. Billy and Ann looked at each other. What could this mean?
When they went into the house, they found Karen sitting at their kitchen table. She was alone.
"Hi," she said. "I hope you don't mind my coming in."
"Of course not, sweetheart," Ann said.
But after what had happened with Karen's father that afternoon, Billy and Ann were eager to find out what this visit meant.
"I talked my father into coming over here to talk with you, Ann," Karen said. "But when he got home he wouldn't tell me what happened."
Billy and Ann stared at the girl without offering to explain.
"And now he's talking about moving away from town," Karen said. "He spent the afternoon calling out of town about a new job."
"Gee, I'm sorry," Ann said. "Jim came over today, but when he got here he found me in bed with someone else."
"Oh," said Karen. "But, gee, that doesn't seem to be serious enough to make him want to quit his job and move out of town and everything."
Ann didn't tell the young girl any more. After all, she didn't want to ruin things between Karen and her son. And if she told Karen about their incest Karen would very likely not hang around very long.
But now it seemed that Karen wasn't going to be around much longer anyhow. If Jim were moving out of town just because he found out about Ann's incest, he must have been serious about his getting back together with her.
Maybe Karen should be told, Ann thought. But if so, Billy would have to be the one to tell her.
"I'll never forgive my father if he takes me away from here," Karen said as she gave Billy a look of longing.
Neither Ann nor Billy could think of anything they could say that would explain things to Karen. So after more conversation full of long, awkward pauses Karen said she had to go.
Billy and Ann said good by to her with relief. They both felt bad, but there didn't seem to be any way out. At least they still had each other.
Ann went to her son and put her arms around him.
"Wow, it looks like we've really made a mess of things," Ann said.
"I don't care," Billy said. "I'd rather have you than anyone."
They kissed. They were both surprised that even after everything that had happened that day they were both getting horny.
"Let's go to bed again," Billy said.
In a few minutes they were under the sheet in Ann's bed, naked and cavorting with each other's bodies.
