Chapter 1
Amanda Rose thought of herself as a somewhat unique young woman. Not that she considered herself especially beautiful, though she was aware she was far from ugly. Her uniqueness lay in the fact that she was twenty-two years old, and in all that time had allowed no man or woman to put amorous hands on her.
The truth of the matter was, Amanda was embarrassed where sex was concerned. To begin with, she had auburn hair which at one time had been long and flowing. In the last year she'd had it cut and styled in a sort of bouffant manner, making her look her age. All the other students on campus had always thought Amanda was one of those child prodigies. Only now did everyone realize that Amanda was the age she professed to be.
She had eyes that changed color, sometimes a light hazel, sometimes almost green. They were large, bunny eyes, creating the innocent image even more strongly. In this case the image had a certain validity to it, because Amanda was totally unaware of what it felt like to be touched, or anything more, for that matter. She had a straight, tiny nose, and below that, a full, ripe mouth with a totally captivating smile. She had small teeth, and this created the image that her upper gums were large, but it just wasn't so. Everything was set into an oval face as pallid as marble, though in the summer a bridge of freckles danced across her nose.
Perhaps what fostered the illusion even more strongly in Amanda was the fact that she was all of four-feet-eleven-and-a-half inches in height, though she insisted she was five feet. The lovely lady was small-boned, with a swan-like throat, rounded shoulders, breasts that were neither too full nor too small for a female of her size, an extremely narrow waist, medium hips and buttocks, and nicely tapered thighs that led to slender calves and ankles.
Amanda was a loner. All through high school and college she had stayed away from other people. She didn't like parties, especially smoking parties. She was vehemently opposed to any of the vices, and though she didn't consider sex a vice, she had never permitted herself an opportunity to indulge in it.
She had a slight inferiority complex, certain she would never be able to measure up to a man's needs. It never occurred to her some man might be thinking the same thing that is, that he might not be capable of satisfying a woman. She had read quite a bit about sex, clinically that is, and there was more than enough of it going on in the movies. Even the R-rated movies were fairly graphic in their portrayal of simulated sex. She also enjoyed going to see foreign films which were quite open and frank where sex was concerned. But Amanda was too afraid to experiment. No, she wasn't afraid of pregnancy. She had been on the Pill for the last two years, strictly as a precaution.
What Amanda didn't realize was that others saw her somewhat differently from the way she saw herself. To begin with, Amanda thought of herself as looking a little like a helpless rabbit, especially when she wrinkled her nose. The truth of the matter was, the closest Amanda ever came to looking like a hare in anyone's eyes was the thought that she was as cute as a bunny. Where she felt her figure was somewhat spare, everyone else looking at her thought she was nicely curved and rounded where a woman ought to be. She was capable of holding her own in political discussions, social discussions, and all kinds of classroom debates, but on the outside, she socialized with no one.
At the moment she was finishing up her last year at the university, and though her roommate in the dorm had tried, time and time again to get Amanda to become socially involved, Amanda had refused. She'd had a different roommate each of her four years in college, and then again in her last year in graduate school. In fact, in graduate school, she'd had three different roommates. The first one hadn't been capable of continuing with graduate school and had dropped out at the end of the first semester. The second one had been openly promiscuous with boys, and the fact that Amanda was a serious student who insisted the dorm was a place for study and not frivolity had irritated said roommate no end, and finally she had switched with another woman who was apparently more interested in studying than she was interested in men. But even though Ruth, her roommate, was basically a creature intent on making good grades, she was a woman with a certain sex drive, and occasionally gratified her urges. Because she indulged on the outside, Amanda was unaware that Ruth was AC-DC. In spite of Ruth's constant urgings, Amanda refused to start dating.
