Introduction

In our fast-paced age, the time of the so-called Nuclear Family, neighborhood and community ties are often stretched to the thinnest as couples move in and out, sometimes barely unpacking before they are gone again. It is little wonder that these communities offer little for the lonely housewife, the "salesman's widow" who needs more than anything a friendly smile now and then to guide her through the often lonely times when her husband and breadwinner is away.

These women, many of them young and sexually at their peak, are forced by the rules of money-making to live what is at best an unnatural existence, deprived of their husbands for days or even weeks, alone and without the kind of attention a responsive female needs and deserves.

There is little surprise when some of these women stray, tempted by the occasional man who enters their lives. Most of these same wives would never have thought of adultery, even in their wildest moment, had their husbands been closer at hand. But they do... and they do it by the thousands every day of every week.

This novel attempts to take you into the secret lives of several such women, to help you understand their temptations and their failures. To give us all a clearer understanding of this often tragic phenomenon.
