Foreword
For many centuries it was thought that incest was dangerous to the human family. And yet despite this-or perhaps because of its illicit attraction-incest has remained one of mankind's most common, if clandestine, of sexual activities.
The stories surrounding it abound in folklore. Who has not heard the old saying that "A hillbilly virgin is a twelve-year-old that can run faster than her pappy and her brother." Yet among "nice" people, the topic is virtually taboo.
But who wouldn't admit that any middle-aged man who waves away a suggestion of interest in a young woman with "Why, she's young enough to be my daughter!" simply has not had any daughters at all....
Nonetheless, incest is coming out of the closet. In recent years widespread incest clubs have begun forming all over the country. Mother and son, father and daughter, aunt and nephew, all are traveling around the country to meet with other swinging incesters. The swing toward incest has become almost contagious from the Atlantic to the Pacific.
In this book, A Family Together, the author has tried to show something of what happens in a three-generation family where the taboos break down. And he has shown this in such a way that it is in no way obscene, but can be seen to have real psychological and sociological values important to the way in which we lead our lives today.
Is it right for a teen granddaughter to make love with her grandfather? Who can say? What about daughter and father? Mother and son? Incest has been the subject that consenting adults have been afraid to discuss. But what man has not found himself occasionally leering at some pubescent Lolita, wondering what her nipples looked like, and how much pubic hair she had developed!
It is our feeling that the author of this deeply moving and sociologically important novel has gone a long way toward stripping the mystique from incest and showing, in a clear way, just what its advantages can be for the human race.
