Chapter 10
It was a sunbursting morning with the dew still wet on the green carpet of the baseball diamond. The screams and excitations of young boys practicing hitting, pitching and catching filled the blue skies, their short legs scissoring from base to base, their slender arms straining sinewy and taut with the throw of the ball.
Ralph Henderson, golf jacket thrown over one shoulder, stood leaning against the wire mesh fence near the bandstand watching the young performers, his wife and sister amongst them. Lifting his hand to shade his eyes, he did a double-take, a slow smile growing on his lips. He pulled himself erect then as he watched the twin figures of his wife and sister jogging from the baseball field sidelines to approach him, Jean waving a warm welcome home.
He scratched his head in wonderment as the two women came walking hand in hand up to him. Now wasn't that a strange situation, he wondered. He could have sworn those two women had hated each other.. . by God, wasn't that weird though?
