Introduction
Greed is nothing new on this planet; it is not a product solely of the Twentieth Century. But in times past, other codes of behavior served to temper the hunger for personal gain that almost all men harbor. Without the pervasive influence of the church, the rigid moral laws imposed by the state, men and women are cut loose, cast adrift in a world where nothing seems to make sense.
It is little wonder then that in their search for simple, comprehensible answers, logical paths of behavior, many of these people threw themselves wholeheartedly into the quest for riches, putting their own happiness and the happiness and even well-being of their loved ones in jeopardy.
In a materialistically oriented society where everything is for sale, the intangible, but important values of love, trust and compassion can too easily be pushed aside in deference to the more visible and unfortunately, socially acceptable rewards of money, power, property.
This novel attempts to take you into the secret life of one such young couple, a life, where thanks to the greed of the husband, all things are reduced to the level of the marketplace...even to the point where he would trade his own body and that of his lovely wife for success! It is offered in the hopes that it will give all of us a clearer understanding of the scope of our moral dilemma.
