Foreword

Even with the rising rate of divorce, the liberalized attitude toward sex, and the common occurrence of a "living together" arrangement, most surveys have shown that Americans still overwhelmingly believe in the institution of marriage. But despite that belief, the basic structure and workings of contemporary matrimony are a far cry from those of its predecessors.

Today there are more and more families in which both the husband and wife work. There also seems to be a more equal sharing of the responsibilities of home and children. And there appears to be a radical change occurring in marital sex mores.

This is the story of several average American young couples who find themselves at a crossroads -- their marriages, while solid and filled with mutual respect, have grown routine. They find, however, that they are capable of great flexibility, and manage to change their situations without sacrificing their marriages. While their solution may seem shocking to some, it provides a satisfactory outlet and uniting force.

THE SWAPPERS NEXT DOOR -- the story of husbands and wives trying to make their marriages more meaningful. An entertaining novel with a serious message.
